Palmer O’Dea Law Firm Obtains $680,000 Verdict for Sexually Abused Client

November 6, 2009 – Richard D. O’Dea and Eric M. Palmer of Palmer O’Dea Law Firm have obtained a $680,000.00 judgment on behalf of their client, M.D.. The Court found that the defendant repeatedly sexually abused M.D. from ages 13 to 18, while he acted as M.D.’s pastor and spiritual adviser at a Lutheran church in Lake Crystal, Minnesota. M.D. was subsequently diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (“PTSD”) following the longstanding occurrences of abuse. The Court granted relief based upon the defendant’s conduct, which constituted battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress upon M.D.

The Hennepin County Trial Court ordered damages in the following amounts:

  • Past Pain, Suffering and Emotional Distress: $250,000.00;
  • Future Pain, Suffering and Emotional Distress: $250,000.00;
  • Future Medical and Therapy Expenses: $30,000.00; and
  • Punitive Damages: $100,000.00;

Palmer O’DeaLaw Firm is pleased to have obtained this result on behalf of our client, who displayed tremendous strength and resiliency in seeing this matter to conclusion.
